2016 Kitchen Trends

Posted on January 04, 2016

As you anticipate the new year and plan for your new build or re-model, be sure to check out these nine Kitchen Trends to look out for in 2016! They are the hottest designs to seek out this new year!

1. Soft, Muted Color Palettes: Though white motifs will still dominate, everything from cabinets to backsplashes will be done in less standard tones.

2. Smart Spaces: Get ready for a hi-tech makeover! "Look for areas with hidden charging stations to store devices like phones and tablets so they are always operable, at hand, and charged!"

3. An '80's Reboot: Mirrored backsplashes, brass accessories, and high-gloss surfaces aren't dead by a long shot, but they are more elegant and refined this time around!

4. Metal Range Hoods: In 2016, metal will assume a more dominant role in the kitchen aesthetics and trump wood as the range hood of choice.

5. Integrated Kitchen-Living Spaces: Whether your kitchen feels disconnected from the rest of your home, or your cooking space needs to feel more accommodating; this trend could be for you!

6. A New Kind of Tradition: "Traditional designs will always remain popular, but future renditions will be more deliberate with an emphasis on key elements like hoods, islands, cabinet crowns, and so on." -Designer; Lockhart

7. Texture-on-Texture Contrast: Designers are looking to re-position the same texture in different patterns throughout the kitchen.

8. A "Nod" to Midcentury Mod: It is easy to get into the minimalist movement by choosing predominantly white color palettes, designing with light wood textures and clearing away unnecessary clutter.

9. Well-lit Cabinetry: Homeowners won't settle for just ceiling lights and table lamps to illuminate their kitchens. Designers say extensive cabinet lighting is a trend to watch!

Preparing Your Home for Holiday Guests

Posted on November 10, 2015

One of the best parts about the holiday's is inviting people to your home, and having everyone together. But getting ready for these guests can be a bit of a task. Having guests in your home takes planning and execution to ensure everyone is welcome and comfortable. Below are just a few ways to prepare your home for family and friends!

Keep Cozy Blankets Handy

It's always a good idea to have extra blankets at the ready for your guests to ensure maximum comfort while they're away from home. A plush throw in a luxe fabric like faux fur is an easy way to add a touch of glamour that will make your guests feel extra special!

Add Fresh Flowers

Although it's always nice to have fresh flowers in the house, when you have guests in town, there's nothing like a bunch of blooms to pretty up their room and brighten the mood!

Make a Place to Hang Coats

The more comfortable you can make your guests feel in your home, the better. One of the easiest ways to make your visitor feel at home, is to give them a spot to put their stuff. Make sure you have an obvious place for them to hang their coat, scarf, and bag so they don't have to awkwardly stand around holding their things.

Stock Up on Extra Bath Necessities

If you're like me, you always leave at least one key toiletry item at home. We always feel slightly embarrassed about having to ask for these things, but you can avoid this conversation by placing a collection of basic toiletry items (cotton balls, q-tips, toothpaste, extra toothbrushes, etc.) in pretty containers where they are easily accessible. It's a small but super thoughtful way to show your guests that you've been anticipating their arrival and want to be sure they have everything they need!

Simple Ways to 'Boost' Your Bathroom

Posted on October 07, 2015

Maybe you're not quite ready to completely remodel, build, or gut your bathroom; but still want that extra 'something'. Below will show you simple ways to give your bathroom a fresh look for fall!

1. Change Your Faucet. Whether you change your faucet because it's no longer functional, you don't like the design, the finish isn't what you want, or you simply want that 'wow' factor, installing a new faucet is easy, noticeable, and can truly change the dynamic of your bathroom.

Here's an example of a before and after!

2. Light Fixture Change: Lighting can be a breathtaking feature in a bathroom; big or small. Choosing the right design, location, and size can dramatically effect the 'vibe' of the bathroom. Check out the difference this simple light fixture swap made in this bathroom!

3. Touchless Toilet Flush Kit: Upgrade your current toilet to a no-touch flush. This easy to install kit brings a touchless flush to almost any toilet. Once it's installed, just hold your hand over the tank sensor to activate the flush. No handle to touch means fewer germs to pick up, or leave behind!

4. Electric Mirror: Ever struggled putting on your make-up because the light shadows, it's dim, or it's simply ineffective? Electric Mirrors have natural light ideal for make-up application, environmentally sustainable and energy efficient lighting, and low-mercury T5HO warm fluorescent bulbs. In addition to incredible functionality, electric mirrors are aesthetically gorgeous design pieces to add to any bathroom or powder room.

5. Curved Shower Rod: This curved double-rod is designed to separate your shower curtain from the liner; while adding a touch of design. This rod has decorative covers to add an elegant look while concealing installation screws. Also, an added bonus with the curved shower rod, is that it gives slightly more room in the tub and shower!

Adding a 'Pop' of Color!

Posted on September 24, 2015

Wanting to re-model your kitchen or bathroom but just can't seem to find the right color? Naturals are always in style, black and white are classy and chic; but maybe you want something a little more 'out of the box' and charismatic. The following pictures are fabulous examples of how, and where, to add color to for a little bit of drama, while still keeping a beautiful design!

Whether you choose to add color in something big such as the sink, bathtub, backsplash, cupboards, or tile; or in something fun like towels, rugs, vases, and other accessories; color adds a great deal of personality, texture, and dimension to any space!

Six Ways to Add Autumn Warmth to Your Kitchen

Posted on September 17, 2015

I don't know about you, but September means one things for me....FALL DECORATIONS! The mantle, front door wreath, pumpkins on the porch, and fall scented candles are all simple ways to add a little autumn warmth to the home. However, what about the number one most used room in the house.....the kitchen! So often, the kitchen gets overlooked when it comes to decoration. Here are six decoration ideas recommends!

1. Light! Soft, overhead lighting and especially candlelight are the first things that come to mind when I think of adding warmth to a room. I keep candles in various spots around the kitchen!

2. Color! Autumn is a season of magnificent color. If you're going to add candles or other decorative accessories, why not add them in a nutmeg, cinnamon, or caramel color?

3. Seasonal Dishes. Beautiful plates can play the role of lovely artwork when displayed on the walls. I like to use glided plate racks that are pretty in themselves, and make it easy to change plate motifs in a matter of minutes!

4. Spicy aromas. There's nothing quite like the smell of autumn. Spicy aromas like cinnamon and the like can be found in potpourri and candles, and add a delightful feeling of warmth to the room.

5. Nature Imagery. In addition to the imagery on dishes and ceramics, you can use actual items from nature like pine cones, acorns, and leaves to bring the season indoors. I like to use these tiny treasures as filler around my candles.

6. Food! No autumn decor could be complete without gourds and pumpkins. I have them sprinkled throughout my house and in my kitchen, I have a basket of warm toned gourds.
