Bathrooms
1. Collect ideas:
a. Look through today’s magazines to get an idea of the “look” you would like to achieve.
b. Create a book/binder filled with pictures and ideas collected that you want to incorporate.
2. For master bathrooms:
a. Today more and more people and investing money into their bathrooms to create a more spa like environment. Having a whirlpool or custom shower can help you relax, rejuvenate, and renew yourself.
b. Whirlpools are not for everyone. With busy lifestyles today it is hard to find time to relax in a tub. Custom showers make it possible to replace whirlpools with anything from from massaging body jets, to large rain showerheads, to steam generators.
c. When doing a custom shower check your water heater and water pressure.
- Water pressure should be at least 45 PSI (pounds per square inch) for a system with three or more shower components.
- Water heater: be sure to check the specifications on your water heater so a knowledgeable associate can help you configure what all components your water heater can handle. Some people also put in an additional water heater in their bathroom for their custom shower.
d. Take a look over your floor plans to see how much space is available.
Things you might want to have in a bathroom that you might not think about
Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning out your bathroom that could save you money and a mess down the road
a. Stop Valves
- Turns flow to designated fixture of supply off so if need be repair can be done without turning off all the water in the house.
b. Thermostatic Valves
- Can preset temperature from 60F-120F
- Get a more accurate temperature and a better flow rate
c. Hand-held shower for your whirlpool/tub
- Not only are they nice for rinsing off your body after you are finished bathing, but they also come in handy when it is time to clean and rinse down the tub.
d. Comfort height toilets
- Standard toilets usually are 15” in height from floor to top of bowl (not including seat)
- Today toilets are available in comfort height meaning they are 17” in height which makes it easier to sit down on and also releases some of the pressure off your knees.
- They are usually put into master bathrooms and powder rooms.
e. Dual flush toilets
- Average person flushes their toilet 5 times a day, which averages about 2,920 gallons per year of water being wasted.
- Dual flush toilets allow you to select amount of water per flush. You can select a 1.0-gallon flush for liquid waste or a 1.4-gallon flush for quick bulk waste removal.
For the Kitchen

2. Think about the functionality of your kitchen
a. How do you utilize your kitchen?
b. Consider how much time you spend in the kitchen.
c. Think of long and short term.
3. Decide what your goal is for your kitchen?
For example: Do you want your kitchen to be high in design? Do you want your kitchen a place for gourmet cooking? Do you want it to be children friendly? Or do you want it to be a place more for gatherings? Ect.
4. Figure out your kitchen layout
a. Size of cabinets (where will kitchen sink be located, and possibly entertainment/prep & sink location)
b. What type of countertop are you using? (i.e. granite, corian, tile, laminate, ect.)
c. Where will your dishwasher be located, right or left of sink?
Items to consider that you may not think about
a. Pot fillers
- Mounted near stove making it convenient for the user to fill up larger pots.
b. Instant hot water faucets
- Delivers near boiling water around 200° F.
- Also available with filtered cold water feature.
c. SinkTop Switch
- Alternative to a wall switch that can be conveniently located onto the sink or the countertop.
